ZOË-MAE STEVENS
My work explores the material of a plastic bottle. I am focused on my own feeling of helplessness when bombarded with negative information about this toxic material and its destruction of our environment.
I am creating a structure that seduces the viewer into a sense of comfort by focusing on the beauty and detail of the work and also denies the overwhelming threat of the plastic that it’s made out of.
The blanket is a symbol of reassurance and comfort, to counteract feelings of anxiety and threat. By using the very material that is destroying our environment, I am making the invisible visible so that we can avoid it.
Danielle Tay is an artist that has inspired my work. Tay's work focuses on creating different worlds where viewers are brought back to a time of innocence and adventure through being immersed in sound, sight and touch.
